Eddy Current Testing – Level I

SNT-TC-1A, ANSI/ASNT CP-189, and NAS-410

Course Description:

The Eddy Current Testing – Level I course is a basic course in eddy current theory, test instrumentation, coils and basic impedance plane principles and is designed for manufacturers, service organizations, and overhaul agencies, who require their technicians, inspectors or engineers to be trained in the application of eddy current inspection techniques. Upon completion, students will be able to perform conductivity, lift-off, thickness, and flaw detection applications.

Program Highlights:

  • Introduction (History, Comparison with Other Methods)
  • Semiconductor Sensing Elements
  • Electric and Magnetic Concepts
  • Impedance Amplitude and Phase Angle
  • Flux Leakage Theory and Principles
  • Discontinuity Signals
  • Eddy Current Test Behavior
  • Applications
  • Conductivity
  • Recording and Reports
  • Dimensional Factors
  • Preparing for Personnel Certification Examinations
  • Test Coils/ Inductive Coil Sensors
  • Review and Final Course Examination

Prerequisites & Comments:

The Level I courses are basic programs for persons with little or no technical background. Class size is limited for maximum utilization of instructor, equipment and resources.
